Do you know that maps initially had Africa at the top (North) and Europe at the bottom (South)?

Al-Idris designed this map around 1154 and 400 years later, a new map was designed and Africa was put at South and Europe at North.

Al-Idris did not only designed the most accurate world map at the time, he also calculated the circumstance of the earth at the Equator and got 22,900 miles. The current figure is 24,901 miles. That be 90% accuracy.

Al-Idri’s map is called Tabula Rogeriana.

The map was commissioned by Roger II of Sicily, and it took Al-Idri’s and his team of scholars 15 years to produce the map.

The map is 870 years now
